Are my two way radios genuine? 

Despite looking identical to their authentic counterparts, non-genuine/counterfeit two way radios, BBPTT devices, batteries, and accessories are manufactured to very different quality standards. 

What are the implications of buying a non genuine two way radio?

Counterfeits are not subject to any quality control, safety checks, or other regulatory processes that would normally be expected and you do not have assurance that they are configured for use in your country.

Here a six reasons why grey imports are not worth the risk:

1. Poor audio quality: Non-genuine radios and push to talk devices may have poor audio quality, which can lead to poor reception, static, and other audio issues that can be distracting and potentially cause safety issues. 
2. Software updates: Counterfeit two way radio radios will not have the latest firmware and software that a genuine walkie talkie would have, which means you are missing out on vital features and functions, leaving your employees vulnerable to safety risks.
3. Security risks: Non-genuine walkie talkie radios and BBPTT radios will not have the same level of encryption and security as genuine radios, making them vulnerable to hacking or eavesdropping, and the theft of data.
4. Unreliable connectivity: Non-genuine two way radios may not have reliable connections due to inferior components and poor design as the manufacturer will have used cheaper materials and/or components in order to save money.
5. Lack of support: Grey import radios and smart device do not have the same level of support as genuine radios, meaning they are unable to be serviced or repaired if they develop any faults.
6. Battery safety: Non-genuine batteries supplied on your chosen communications device can be dangerous because they may not meet safety standards and may be prone to overheating, exploding, or catching fire. They may also not last as long as genuine batteries, meaning that you may need to buy replacements more often. 

How can I confirm if my device is genuine?

• The price – does it sound too good to be true compared to the other quotations you have received?  
• Genuine two way radio or PoC equipment will be supplied with a sticker stating the full serial number which can be checked via a manufacturers stock database.
• When purchasing your radio or BBPTT equipment always source from an approved partner. Partner locators can be found on a manufacturers websites, and the partner you select will be able to provide you with a certificate that authorises them to sell and service that equipment. Their specialist Account Managers and Engineers will also be trained in the support, service and maintenance of your chosen technology.
