PWC (Price Waterhouse Cooper) was recently named City AM’s Accountancy Firm of the Year and has worldwide income exceeding £2 billion. The firm contracted Radiocoms to supply a brand new radio system for its UK flagship offices at Charing Cross in central London as part of a complete refurbishment of the property Previously, PWC operated an outdated s analogue system which provided users with only two channels; one for security and the second shared amongst various service teams on an open call basis. Radio traffic was non-specific to most users and access restricted due to near continual usage. Effective coverage in all areas was also an issue compromising security. Prior to system design, a comprehensive building survey and an analysis of end-user requirements were conducted by Radiocoms.

Radiocoms installed the Motorola Capacity Plus System for PWC, providing users with the ability to communicate freely amongst their own user group without hearing conversations that were irrelevant to their team, yet permitting the flexibility of communicating with other groups or all radio users simultaneously when required (e.g. in the management of emergencies). The system comprises two Motorola DR3000 repeater base stations in Capacity Plus mode connected to a distributed antennae network with user groups operating Motorola DP4400 and SL4000 handsets throughout the main building.

Radiocoms will shortly complete the third and final phase of the radio system by extending the radio network’s coverage and functionality to the building’s remote car and bicycle parks.
