MOTOTRBO DP4401 Ex* and DP4801 Ex* have now been certified to both MED/5.20 and UK/5.20

From 1st July 2018, regulations were changed, whereas all ships are required to carry a minimum of two portable two-way radios for fire-fighters that must be of an intrinsically safe type (within EU waters, that means they needed to be ATEX certified). ATEX certification is no longer sufficient to meet the requirements:

• On EU-registered vessels, since 3rd October 2022, any new fire-fighter radios deployed on vessels have had to be certified to the EU Maritime Directive (MED/5.20) and bear the “Wheelmark”.
• For UK-registered vessels, from 1st January 2023, new fire-fighter radios deployed on vessels must comply with the UK Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Regulations (UK/5.20) and be marked with the “Red Ensign”. 

Motorola Solutions have announced that the MOTOTRBO DP4401 Ex* and DP4801 Ex* have now been certified to both MED/5.20 and UK/5.20 – This is the first ATEX radio to achieve dual certification standards.

Motorola Solutions will label any new shipments of these models with the Wheelmark and Red Ensign.
