Over the years this leading lifestyle and retail destination has gained a reputation for innovation and forward thinking with their processes and technologies they select. Utilising the lockdown as a period of review, they accelerated their plans to find ways to keep teams safe in their ‘new normal’. The incumbent radio system had degraded over time and was becoming unreliable, disrupting team efficiency, internal communications and ultimately safety. After various discussions it was requested by both the facilities management company and centre management that a new radio communications system would be beneficial for all users.
After approaching Radiocoms for an initial discovery meeting, Radiocoms were tasked to design and deploy a new radio system in time for the retail sector re-opening after the third lockdown in England on 12th April 2021. The solution needed the ability to upscale and have the flexibility to support their needs as they grew.
Extensive site testing was carried out across the outlet to ensure all requirements were met following which Radiocoms developed a tailored solution and service for the client based on MOTOTRBO IP Site Connect. The selected technology is a proven and favoured solution within the retail industry – offering wide area coverage, and seamless roaming from one area to another without the need for manual intervention.
The infrastructure comprises of four MOTOTRBO SLR5500 digital repeaters, linked via IP which allows for 4 simultaneous voice call across different user groups. With its sleek form factor and low power consumption, the repeater is engineered for a low cost of ownership. And with a huge leap forward in technology, it represents the next generation in repeaters as the cornerstone of a MOTOTRBO professional two-way radio system by providing robust security and resiliency.
In addition to the new infrastructure, the client upgraded their monitoring and dispatching solution software (TRBOnet) to ensure business-critical data was kept safe and secure whilst benefiting from additional user enhancements for full system visibility. Personalised devices for varying job roles where an essential consideration, a selection was deployed from the MOTOTRBO portfolio which included the DP4000e, DP2000e and SL2600 range, all heavily encrypted with varying abilities and functions programmed.
Today, the 125 users retail and lifestyle brands based on site are now benefiting from new MOTOTRBO devices that support their internal and external communication with centre management and FM teams such as maintenance, cleaning, security, and management. The upgrade system has delivered enhanced employee productivity and boosted customer service and experience.
In order to reduce CAPEX and management complexity the system was deployed on a long term hire contract. The client now benefits from a personalised, built in service and maintenance scheme which is complemented by Radiocoms dedicated account management and support staff.
Terry Staff, account manager at Radiocoms, summarises: “We pride ourselves on our ability to deliver for our customers, whatever the situation and time frame involved.
